Getting into the sun and receiving vitamin D is crucial for maintaining optimal health. Vitamin D is necessary for the body to absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for strong bones and teeth. Without enough vitamin D, the body cannot effectively absorb these minerals, leading to weak bones and an increased risk of fractures. Furthermore, vitamin D deficiency has been linked to an increased risk of many chronic diseases.
In addition to its role in bone health and disease prevention, vitamin D also plays a crucial role in immune function. Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and enhances the body's ability to fight off infections. Studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency is associated with an increased risk of respiratory infections, such as the flu and COVID-19. Therefore, getting enough vitamin D from the sun is essential for maintaining a healthy immune system and reducing the risk of infections.
So, get outdoors more and stop covering yourself up. It's healthy to be in the sun, as long as you don't burn. When it's a hot day, just get outdoors for 15-20 minutes. It's so good for you.
