Gearing Up For the Flu Season

Updated: Nov 25

Flu season is upon us once again and it's time to get our bodies in check and get our shields up to protect ourselves from this very dreaded #illness.

The #flu can strike without any notice and throw us down and into bed for usually 3-10 days. But, we all have the opportunity to help keep it at bay or not even get it at all.

Here's what you can do right now naturally, to help keep your body strong, so you don't have to take on this next seasons battle.

Take vitamin C and at least a minimum of 1000 mg per day. This is the minimum amount your body needs daily, to help fight off colds and flu's. Vitamin C is water soluble. Your body will use what it needs and then the rest gets flushed out with your urine. If you're already sick then take at least 3,000 mg of vitamin C daily.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health state, "The Recommended Dietary Allowance of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) for adults has now been set at 45 mg day(-1) by the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board. This intake suffices to prevent scurvy in most people. It is, however, much less than the optimum intake, the intake that leads to the best of health. A larger intake decreases the incidence and severity of the common cold and other diseases. Ascorbic acid has antiviral and antibacterial activity and is required for phagocytic activity of leukocytes. Several arguments indicate that for different human beings the optimum intake lies between 250 mg day(-1) and a much higher value, 5000 mg day(-1) or more. It is proposed that the present Recommended Dietary Allowance of 45 mg day(-1) of vitamin C for adults be renamed the Minimum Dietary Allowance, defined as the amount needed to prevent scurvy, and that, after consideration of the evidence about intake and the best of health, there be formulated another category of values, the Recommended Daily Intake, with the suggested range of 250 mg day(-1) to 4000 mg day(-1) of ascorbic acid for an adult." Some of the best sources of vitamin C come from food. Your body doesn't make vitamin C, but it needs it to function optimally, so we are required to get it from a food source or vitamin supplement. Food sources of vitamin C are the best way to receive it, because a whole lot of supplements on the store shelves are synthetically produced.

It is also extremely important to eat properly during flu season. Stay away from sweets. Sugary foods will weaken the immune system instantly and when the immune system is weak your body doesn't have any fighting chance to keep colds and flu away.

Exercise is another key way to keep your immune system strong. Exercise at least 30 minutes per day, every day and you'll find that you can get through the flu season better.

Sleep. This is the most important time of the entire year to insure you're getting adequate sleep. If you're run down, it will weaken your immune system even more. Adults need at least 7+ hours and children need 9+ hours of good solid sleep. If you're getting any less, your immune system will more than likely not be strong enough to fight the flu or any other illness. Get your sleep. Go to bed early.

It is very rare that I or my family ever get the flu. At most we will get one mild cold per flu season and it usually only will last a day or two. We take care of our body daily and make sure to eat right and exercise. This makes a difference in the way that my family and I feel and it's how we shield ourselves during the flu season. We don't have flu shots either. Our nutrition is our flu shot. Daily we provide our body with at least 40+ fruits and vegetables. This is what makes the difference to keep the flu away. If you'd like to learn more about how we do this, write me an email and let me know what you're wanting to know. Email me at: livingabovethestars@gmail.com

My advice is: before taking any flu shot that you do your homework and read the inserts that come with each vile and educate yourself about what toxic ingredients you'll be putting into your body.

My mission is to educate people to learn and understand how to fight illness of any kind. The simple answer is be focused on your body and how you care for it and focus on what you feed it. It will make all the difference in the world.

Light & Love,

Patty
